Stainless steel stub end is a type of pipe fitting that is used to connect pipes or flanges, made of the stainless steel. It is designed to be welded to the pipe or lap joint flange to create a secure and leak-proof joint. Used in conjunction with a backing flange, a Stub End is, essentially, a short length of pipe with one flared end and one square-cut end, which is welded to a pipe of the same NPS, material grade and schedule. The combination of a Stub End and a backing flange is generally used as an alternative to a standard flange.

Our stainless steel stub ends are made of different grades of stainless steel materials, including 304, 316 stainless steel and others. They have high corrosion resistance and can be used in humid or chemical working environments.

They are available in a variety of sizes up to 80 inches, and we can also customize them to provide larger stub ends based on your needs.

These fittings are also available in a variety of surface treatments, including hot-dip galvanizing, epoxy and FBE coatings, to increase their resistance to wear and tear.

Type "B" Stub Ends are for use with standard Slip-On Flanges acting as Lap Joint Flanges. The Lap thickness on these Stub Ends is greater than, or equal to, the nominal thickness of the pipe wall.  Also, Type "B" has an outside corner radius small enough to receive Slip-On Flanges that are being used as the Backup Flange. The inside corner is square. The Lap generally has a machined serrated face.

Type "C" Stub Ends are for use with standard Lap Joint Flanges and Slip on Flanges. The Lap of a Type "C" is flared leaving a rounded edge at the I.D. of the Lap. If required this radius can be made nearly square. The Lap thickness is 75% of the pipe wall. The Type "C" has a very short outside radius small enough to receive any back up flange. The Lap face on a Type "C" is not machined and is smooth.

Buying stub ends that meet international standards is critical to ensure that they are of good quality and meet industry requirements. Standards such as ASME B16.9 and ASTM A403 are essential to guaranteeing the reliability and performance of the stub end.

Regular cleaning of the stub end is important to prevent the build-up of dirt, grime, and other contaminants that can lead to corrosion or damage. Use a mild detergent or soap solution and a soft brush or cloth to clean the stub ends. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or scrubbers that can scratch the surface of the fittings.

Lubricate the threads of the stub ends regularly to prevent seizing or galling. Use a high-quality lubricant that is compatible with stainless steel and the type of fluid being transported.

A: Stub End Din 2642 fittings are available in short and long pattern i.e. - ASA and MSS ASME B16.9 Stub End. The list consists of Stub End Dimensions in sizes up to 80 inches.

Q: What is the ASME B16 9 stub end?

A: ASME B16.9 Stub End is a metallic product that is a rod with threads on both ends. The ASME B16.9 standard specifies the size of the fitting as ½ inches to 10 inches for seamless products and ½ inches to 48 inches for welded products.

A: There are different material grades such as 304, 304L and 316L stainless steel grades that are used to create the stub ends. The ASME B16. 9 Carbon Steel Stub End Fittings are also in use in various industrial applications.

A: Type A Stub Ends are produced and machined to fit Lap Joint flanges. They are the most common. Type B Stub Ends are used in conjunction with standard Slip-On flanges. Type C Stub Ends can be used both with Lap Joint and Slip-On backing flanges.

A: For "stub in," the stub or branch pipe extends to the inside of the main pipe. The hole in the main pipe is (usually) beveled to allow for a full-penetration weld. For "stub on," the stub extends only to the outside of the main pipe. The stub may be beveled, but if not only a fillet weld can be done.

A: Austenitic stainless steels can withstand temperatures up to 870 degree (1598 degree F), while ferritic and martensitic stainless steels have lower temperature limits, typically around 700 degree (1292 degree F).
